Oops...don't think this made it the first time...

Hi Petur-

I do quite a lot of work with OmniBack (OBII).

Basically, it is like most of the other backup products out there, in
that everything is based on full/incremental type architecture (what I
refer to as the "ArcServe mentality").

The good part about OBII is that it's a pretty simple product. You can
generally figure it out pretty easily just by playing around with it.

The down side is that it has virtually no tape management/tracking
capabilities at all. You can update the location of a given volume, but
it must be done manually...there's no automation for that piece at all.

There's also no really obvious way to create a duplicate set of data to
be sent off site, or not without doing some fairly complex scripting.
You can duplicate a tape in OBII, but the trick is to figure out which
tapes to copy. All that stuff is a manual operation.

It works well in small environments, and works particularly well with
standalone drives.

In general, however, for an environment of any size, and especially with
a larger library, it doesn't scale upwards very well.
