Eric - It's too early in the morning for such problems...  :-|

In the interests of symmetry, I would try 'dsmc q ba ericfile', which I hope
would show the file.
You don't say if you did the backup from your own account.  Try doing the query
from root, which should be able to see everything.
I'd also do 'dsmc q fi' to see if any other filespaces appear beginning with
"/var": you may want to try putting the filespace portion of the path name in
braces, then, to prevent TSM from being confused about where to look.
Lastly I'd look in the server Backups table to see how the file appears there,
including owner.

Then, of course, there is the inevitable question: What happened a month ago to
incite this difference in behavior?  Any TSM client software changes, for
example?  Your site's system change control journal may provide some insights.
