I would not want to exclude any of these files (except things like core
of course) from *SM backup. What if I or someone deletes or
misconfigures a file (/etc/qconfig, DNS files, syslog, etc/inittab,)
to name a few?

It is good to have the abiltiy to quickly restore ANY file(s). In all
my years of computer experience (even when *SM was a gleam
in someone's eye), I have never had a problem with having too
much data/too many backups. I have had a few occaisions with
not enough stuff backed up!

Plans for *SM need to include both big and little disasters.
