So, you're relying on DFDSS to do your TSM recovery? The only thing you
really need is the DBBackup tape, which I would hope you're creating anyway.
All the data that 'may' be in your disk pools should also be on your
copypool tapes offsite. At your DR site, you're main goal is restores. So
you really don't need your disk storage pools anyway. Unless you're going to
be there for an extended period of time in a 'real' disaster, you probably
won't be doing any backups.

Your server options file would be on a volume that is normally backed up and
restored as part of the 'system'. Then you DSMFMT the dbvolumes, a small log
volume and restore the DB. Your now up and running.

Unless your TSM system is small, and can afford the time/space for doing
full volume backups of all your TSM volumes. My TSM environment is close to
30 3390 mod 3's and mod 9's. The time and tape to back up data that is
already backed up TWICE isn't justified. Plus I can't afford to have my TSM
server down that long to perform those backups. Even with Shark DASD, I'm
still looking at over an hour of downtime.

You could turn around and say that my TSM recovery procedures for an AIX TSM
server would be backup it up with a 'savevg' instead of using the tools that
TSM includes. Or maybe just adding the volumes to the rootvg and letting
mksysb back it up for you.

My normal DR procedures for the OS390 TSM server is to restore the DB,
Restore my disk DIRMC pool, mark 'destroyed' all disk volumes and onsite
tape volumes, make 'available' my copypool tape volumes. If they want to do
some restores later, I define storage pool volumes as needed.

Plus, the cost associated with having 30+ volumes reserved for TSM in the DR
contract is rather high. Like I said earlier, when we go to DR, we are going
there to restore. Backup is not a priority.
