Hi !

I am having troubles with an Optical Library attached
to a TSM Server for AIX-RS/6000.

Environment:

Operating System : AIX 4.3
System Model : IBM,7025-F50
Server Type : TSM for AIX-RS/6000
Server Version : 4.1.0.0
Library Type : SCSI ( Automated Library ) with
two drives.
Library Model : Optical Library IBM 3995 C60
Device Type Used : OPTICAL
Recording Format : 5200MB
Media Used : IBM Rewritable Optical Disk
Cartridges ( P/N : 59H4786 )

Every time the server or an administrator defines a
new optical volume ( private or scratch ), it is
created by TSM with only 1 writable side despite the
fact it is being used a two-sided 5.25-inch rewritable
optical cartridge with both sides not write-protected
and with its capacity fully recognized ( 5200MB ).
So, every time a volume reaches the 50% mark in its
Pct. Util. the server issues the message ANR8462I (
End-of-Side reached for optical volume ) and then the
whole transaction fails because according to the
server there is no space available, that is, the
server does not access the second side of the volume
in order to complete the transaction ( backup or
archive ).

Why the server does not recognize as writable the
second side of the cartridges used ?

On what other parameters the number of writable
sides per volume depend, besides the device type
configured ?

What has to be done to make the server able to
recognize as writable the second side of the volumes
defined?

Please, any clue about how to overcome such a problem
will be greatly appreciated.

Any other needed info about the nature of the problem
will be immediately given.

Regards,
