Tivoli Data Protection for Oracle V2R2 Beta Test Nomination

Customers interested in participating in the beta test of Tivoli Data
Protection for Oracle V2R2 should fill out the following form and send it
to mfilosa AT tivoli DOT com. Nominations will be accepted until 2/22/2001. The
beta test is expected to start in April. Highlights of V2R2 of TDP for
Oracle are as follows:

Tivoli Data Protection for Oracle implements the latest version of the
   Oracle RMAN API, version 2.0.

Tivoli Data Protection for Oracle implements the Duplex Copy feature of
RMAN 2.0, which sends multiple copies of data to the server to be stored
on different media, safeguarding data via redundancy.

During a backup, network speed is generally the bottleneck. Tivoli Data
Protection for Oracle compensates for slow networks with tunable
multi-buffer caching. RMAN writes data to these internal buffers rather
than sending them across the network, allowing RMAN to continue
processing Oracle data without waiting for network transfer. Tivoli
Data Protection for Oracle will then start a new thread to independently
move the data to the server.

Tivoli Data Protection for Oracle now utilizes an options file for user
defined settings. This new centralized location replaces the need for
specifying environment variables during each RMAN channel allocation,
   simplifying configuration.

A new configuration utility is included with Tivoli Data Protection for
Oracle that demystifies configuration and makes problem determination
easier. Because the utility emulates the behavior of Tivoli Data
Protection for Oracle, it displays the same environment and server
settings that Tivoli Data Protection for Oracle picks up during
   operation, exposing setup problems.

When deleting backupsets using Oracle8 RMAN, RMAN deletes the recovery
catalog entries before confirmation from the TSM server. In the case
where deletion from the server was not successful, these backupsets are
no longer identifiable through the recovery catalog. Tivoli Data
Protection for Oracle includes a new utility that reconciles these
discrepancies by displaying and optionally deleting files that exist on
the TSM server but are no longer in the recovery catalog, allowing the
user to reclaim lost space on the TSM server.
