A discipline that I employ to deal with this is to maintain a "source file"
of all commands, TSM and opsys, used to construct the server to the state
that it has today. Whenever I go to tweak a storage pool or policy value,
I first update that value in the source file (e.g., Define Stgpool cmd)
and then do the tweak in the server (e.g., Update Stgpool, to change just
that one value). The source file is in the hierarchical sequence needed
to reconstruct the server. In this way I have the whole command set
tucked away in a safe place, ready for action in case anything goes wrong.
Interspersed comments in the file specify the rationale for all the elements
and values. One sleeps better this way. And I feel it's the kind of thing
I should do: site configuration info should not be exclusively inside heads.
