Robert,

TDP for Exchange talks to the Exchange server through
an Exchange backup/restore API. The Exchange API also has a
nice feature that if there is an error from an API call,
you can call another API with the error code and it will
return a message with text explaining what the problem is.

In some cases, the Exchange server returns error codes that
it did NOT expect to happen. In those cases, it does not
have a valid text message to give back to the API caller.
That appears to be what is happening in your case.

So, what does this mean?

First thing to do is look in the Event Log, to see if the
Exchange server wrote anything meaningful in the there.

If not, we will need to get a trace of the backup to
see the exact return code. Please call IBM/Tivoli service
to get a problem opened in order to track this further.

If you are in rush and in dire need of a backup immediately,
you could try stopping and restarting all Exchange services
or rebooting your server completely. Then retry the backup.
There are no guarantees that it will resolve the problem,
but it may. I have seen this happen before.

Thanks,

Del
