I (might) have a problem with an Exabyte EXB-220 tape library connected
to an RS/6000 running AIX 4.3.3 and TSM 3.7.
I've had no problem attaching the library, after the machine has booted,
the Mammoth drives show up in device configuration:
> lscfg -v | grep 30-58
scsi1 30-58 Wide SCSI I/O Controller
rmt1 30-58-00-1,0 Other SCSI Tape Drive
rmt2 30-58-00-2,0 Other SCSI Tape Drive
I am as well able to define the drives and the library to TSM:
> mkdev -c library -t 'ADSM-SCSI-LB' -s 'scsi' -p 'scsi1' -w '0,0'
> mkdev -c adsmtape -t 'ADSM-SCSI-MT' -s 'scsi' -p 'scsi1' -w '1,0' -a
> block_size='0'
> mkdev -c adsmtape -t 'ADSM-SCSI-MT' -s 'scsi' -p 'scsi1' -w '2,0' -a
> block_size='0'
Now, the TSM devices show up in the device configuration, too:
> lscfg -v | grep 30-58
scsi1 30-58 Wide SCSI I/O Controller
lb0 30-58-00-0,0 Tivoli Storage Manager Library
rmt1 30-58-00-1,0 Other SCSI Tape Drive
mt0 30-58-00-1,0 Tivoli Storage Manager Tape Drive
rmt2 30-58-00-2,0 Other SCSI Tape Drive
mt1 30-58-00-2,0 Tivoli Storage Manager Tape Drive
However, the Tivoli devices lb0, mt0 and mt1 are gone again, after a
reboot of the machine. I do not understand this, is this correct? When I
run cfgmgr manually, it reports
cfgmgr: 0514-621 WARNING: The following device packages are required for
device support but are not currently installed.
devices.scsi
which looks like if there are some device drivers missing. On the other
hand, tape operation seems to be correct from TSM's point of view. Any
insights from ADSM/TSM (on AIX) experts?
