Paul, could you query the Exchange server using excdsmc /excqueryserver ?
We're interested in the server version, what is running, and what logging is
enabled. Also, is this in a Microsoft Cluster Server environment?
Then, you could try running the backup with ntbackup.exe to see if it has
similar problems. Finally, you could schedule a recycle of the Exchange
Server and retry the backup.
