First I'd like to say (tounge in cheek) that you need NO scsi for a
3494. The Library itself uses serial or tcp/ip to get control information
from the AIX-Rs-6000 box. We tried to use TCP/IP but it never worked.
My IBM CE said he's only familiar with setups using rs-232 serial cables.
I take it since you asked how many scsi your not using this 3494 with OS/390
 or some other fiber setup.

On the other hand the 3590s you put in a 3494 probably work better if they
each have their own path (controller) and cable.

We went from two DLT's to one 3494 and the ce first cross-cabled the two
3590s to the two controllers I was using with the 7337s
But I prevailed on him to cable each seperately. Its working great!
