Sorry, but that is not true with *SM.

You don't need the first 'full' backup for a complete restore because the *SM
server (its database) keeps track of the used tapes and the location of the
active and inactive files. To reduce the number of tapes for a single node you
have a feature called 'collocation' that is used in conjunction with
'reclamation' which prevents 'fragmentation' of the data.
