David,

We used to have MOUNTRETENTION set to 0, but that sometimes caused problems. In
particular, during most of the day, the high migration threshold on our disk
storage pool is set to 0% (because we migrate to tape starting at 12 noon to
clear off the disk for processing that night). If any of our users perform a
command backup during this time the files are backed up to disk, but then a
migration to tape immediately begins. All the files would be migrated to tape,
however, no sooner than the tape was dismounted. more files would hit the disk.
This caused us to have to mount the same tape volume again (usually
significantly delayed while we competed with other jobs to get a tape drive).

Setting the MOUNTRETENTION to 1 minute has corrected this problem.
