That's what we do, except we then copy the file off to 8MM and send it offsite.

I'm a newbie but if database is what you feel a single point of failure
then why not set up a FILE device over the network and back it up to
a spare disk somewhere?
Then mount the disk after you reinstall ADSM and rebuild the database from
the data on disk.
I guess once I knew that ADSM has this concept of device classes, it means
all the rest (the operations) are all available and built on top of these
device classes.
