First, something that has nothing to due with your problem.  If you have
hardware compression on the 9840's the the FORMAT should be 9840C.

I'm still running ADSM.  Unless changed in TSM, the default AIX device
driver is not altered by the TSM install and that driver is not sufficient
for the 9840's.  Did you reload the tar file and compare it to the original
file. In our case, they were different.

My guess would be that you did not use the ADSM/TSM Devices Smit path to
define mt1 and mt2.  If I'm correct, TSM is using the default AIX device
driver.  If I'm wrong, I would like to know the resolution since we will be
converting to fibre in the near future.
