Bob - Do 'limit -h' or whatever shell command will show you your hard
      limits.  If they aren't "unlimited" for root, update your opsys
definitions to unlimit root.  Then do an 'unlimit' command.  (Logging
directly in as root - no su or sudo - should be equivalent.)  That
*should* allow you to make full use of your system memory.  That file
system is huge, and absorbing all those file names will eat a lot more
virtual memory than you have in your current limits.

Another circumvention would be to run incremental with -incrbydate
during the week, which would avoid file-by-file comparisons; then make
sure you do a real incremental at least once a week.
