The TSM 3.7 Technical Guide Page 186 describes 3494 Library Sharing.

"...the 3590 tape drives in a 3494 can now be dynamically shared among
multiple ADSM/TSM servers using either the SAN Data Gateway or the
Auto-Share feature of the twin-tailed tape drive.."

"...The TSM server option 3494SHARED YES msut be specified, if you are
sharing the 3494 library with other applications including another ADSM/TSM
server..."

There has been some discussion of the 3494SHARED and  auto-share feature of
the past few weeks.  I believe you need a device driver update, microcode
update and either ADSM 3.1.2.40 or TSM to use the autoshare feature.

I'll be setting it up soon on our ADSM servers, so will let you know how I
get on.
