Brendan,

From the ABC prompt, issue a show mgmtclass and take a look at the
parameters.  This will show you all of the classes in the domain your system
is registered to.  Verify that what ABC is seeing is indeed what you are
seeing.

The next thing to remember is that OpenVMS uses file versioning.  Each
version of the file is a new object on the *SM server.  You will only see
multiple copies of a file like

$1$dua0:[lipp.docs]login.com;1

If the file changes in place, i.e., the version number doesn't change.
Otherwise, you should see objects for login.com like login.com;1,
login.com;2, etc.

You can issue a show backup $1$dua0:[lipp.docs]login.com;* /state=all to see
all the copies of login.com, both versions and active and inactive copies.
