Greetings,
Does ADSM give you any straightforward way to tell how many days,
and how many times, a given tape volume has been in use? A 'q volhist'
will contain a record for each volume (provided no one has done a
'delete volhist', which many people use to delete ADSM database backups)
but that doesn't show how many mounts.
Also, a 'q vol * f=d' will tell you how many mounts each volume has
undergone, but only since it has been put into a storage pool, right?
If the volume gets reclaimed back into a scratch pool and gets reused,
then those numbers get reset.
I have a customer that is concerned that some of their DLT tapes are
more than a few years old, and should be replaced, especially if they
have been used over 100 times, but they have no way to figure out which
tapes are in this situation.
Since the volume serial numbers started at a low number and slowly
climbed, they may just start throwing out the lowest number volumes, on
the assumption those are the most used. But that is a kludge. Any
suggestions?
