We are in the progress of moving off FIDI because of lack of support (drivers
mostly) We've actually cleared up a few unexplainable comm problems at some
remote sites by doing this.  If your thinking of going with a new AIX system you
might as well start it with 100mb ethernet or gigabit.  Also remember that FIDI
is 100 mb unidirectional.  Gigabit and Ethernet are bidirectional so you would
should see a bandwith improvement as well.
