I got this alert also and it specifically states that HSM and ADSM are
NOT affected. Furthermore, the 99365 'never expire' date is only over-
ridden in the case that multiple data sets are placed on the same tape
and one has 99365 and another has an expiration date in 2000. In that
case the VOLUME is given the 2000 expiration date rather than the
'never expire' date. Single file tapes are not affected.

FYI.,
In case any of you are running RMM on OS/390 in conjunction with ADSM.
The way we have configured RMM, the tapes are set to never expire. i.e. let
ADSM expire the tapes.
However at the turn of century the "never expire" i.e. 99 365 marker will be
changed.
Anyone running RMM might want to check that their ADSM tapes have not been
set to expire.

of tape files that were intended to have been kept indefinitely -
in the
process you could lose data. This problem has been corrected and
procedures have been documented to help affected customers solve the
problem. Details are available on the "alert" pages!!!

Subject: ALERT - DFSMSrmm Y2K
Please work with your IBM teammates to ensure that every affected
customer
is made aware of this item and that they get to the IBM Year 2000
Website
for the latest alert information.
IBM has implemented a special alert process to make helpful
information
available to customers as quickly as possible regarding newly
discovered
Year 2000 product issues or pervasive problems that customers may be
encountering with IBM products.
This alert information, which can be found at
http://www.ibm.com/software/year2000 , supplements RETAIN and any
other
service and support systems that customers use for technical
support.
We currently have several alerts posted on this web site and the one
on
DFSMSrmm may be especially important to your customers. It concerns
tape
management that may caused affected customers to inadvertently reuse
tape
files that they intend to keep indefinitely and in the process they
could
lose data. This problem has been corrected and procedures have been
documented to help affected customers solve the problem. Details
are
available on the alert pages as well as on RETAIN.
It is important that you ask your customers who have this product to
check
the alert pages or RETAIN for the most current information. We also
recommend that they continue to check the alert pages frequently.
