Hi Phil,
The beauty of Scott's suggestion is that you can do a lot of the work up front.
Because copy pool backups are incremental in nature, you can start creating the
copies now. All that you then need to do after your last backup is finished is
to perform another copy pool backup to pick up the latest changes.
This isn't going to cost you any more in terms of tapes than your original idea
of marking all current copy pool volumes as detroyed.
