Re: ADSM - NT Files not being backed up

Just my 2 cents:
Personally I believe that backing up the recycle bin is a waste of time so I
exclude it
EXCLUDE *:\RECYCLER\...\*
The Profiles one is a matter of preference for me, but I just want to avoid
the stop errors in the NT Event log.
EXCLUDE C:\WINNT\PROFILES\...\*.DAT
EXCLUDE C:\WINNT\PROFILES\...\*.LOG
(note that you may have to change the above if your standard NT install is
different)
Something worth considering also is
INCLUDE C:\ADSM.SYS\...\* REG_MGTMT_CLASS
We try to work towards being able to recover a server to any point in time
in the last month, however we don't want to go overboard on our extra
versions.
We therefore created a managment class to hold 30versions and use the
include statement to bind c:\adsm.sys\ contents to it. It's still not a
guarantee that we can bring the server back to any point in time in the last
month but with that management class in place we stand a much better chance.
If you use any preschedulecmd batch files which run diagnostics prior to
backing up the server, such as WINMSDP or SRVINFO, you could also instruct
them in the batch file to pipe the output to c:\adsm.sys. It's a neat little
way of holding diagnostics and helpful for DR.

On NT clients, the (default) EXCLUDE list should contain something
like the following lines... the system32\config should be there from
the installed sample dsm.opt! Registry hives are backed up via API,
which gets current instance (rather than the locked-file version).
* Exclude registry-as-files...
Exclude *:\...\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\*.*
Exclude *:\...\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\...\*
* Added - 12/7/99 -dgf-
* On Print servers...
Exclude *:\winnt\system32\spool\printers\*.*
* Exclude registry-as-files....
Exclude *:\WinNT\Profiles\...\*
Exclude *:\WinNT\Profiles\...\*.*
* On Exchange machines, use separate dsm.opt for non-Exchange node
Exclude *:\exchsrvr\...\*
Exclude *:\exchsrvr\...\*.*
