I've worked with this, the first backups took a very long time cause a
large number of adsmdb-objects
have to be created, it's like a first incremental, which is a full.
Also the ADSMDB will grow very fast.
I've run selectives to the Notes DB's and after having a complete backup I
run the first incremental
and those afterwards performed o.k..

Backing up the replications was much slower, cause in our case it was
nearby a daily full backup of our notes server.
Also it was a good idea to turn compression off at the client, cause this
has slowed up the running notes.
