Joshua,

The specific files that we are trying to backup up belong to
the "Microsoft DHCP" service. We are told that these files
are important and need to be backed up. Currently, we are
backing them up using "Arcserve" and the "Arcserve Backup Client
for Open Files". Is there some way of handling this specific
area. (We are aware of the Connect Agents available for ADSM
and will be using them where needed.)

Mark,
Mark,

Depending on which files you are referring to, ADSM may already be
getting the data you need to restore those files. Example:

Registry files in the %SystemRoot%\Profiles\ directory and the
%SystemRoot\System32\Config\ directory are not backed up if they
are open. (This is a Microsoft issue, not an ADSM issue, try
copying the files and see what happens. But ADSM is using the
Win32 API to pull this info out, allowing it to be backed up and
restored if need be. This works well, I have had to do it many times.

MS SQL-Server database files and Exchange information store files
are also open for exclusive use - so ADSM cannot backup the flat files
while those applications have a lock on those files. Thankfully ADSM
has a solution to backup those files. You can use agents to backup
both Exchange and SQL-Server.
