Yes It is possible to start ADSM as a service (only on Win NT as far as I know).
You need to use DSMCUTIL to install your service.

c:\program files\ibm\adsm\baclient> DSMCUTIL install /name:"name of the service"
[ /machine:"name of remote machine] /node:nodename /password:password
[autostart:yes|no]

There's a readme file, doesn't say much but its always helpful
