Bill,

I have a lovely little 9730 and can help you. If you are just looking to
check the tape in through the CAP/BULK there is no need to even specify the
search=bulk parameter in that statement. Here's how I would check a tape in with
only a barcode read.

adsm> checkin libv stk9730 000139 checklabel=no status=scratch

At this point, I wait about 15 seconds and issue the 'query request' command.
ADSM will issue a request for you to place volume 000139 into the entry/exit
port of library stk9730 within 60 minutes.

There will be a request number directly to the left of the request. Once the
tape is in the CAP/BULK and the door is closed, just issue the command 'reply
xxx' command where xxx would be the number of the request issued by ADSM. At
this point, ADSM will read the barcode label and not check the media label
(checklabel=barcode is only valid with a search parameter) and voila! Check your
activity log for a successful checkin! Let me know if I can be of further
assistance on the 9730, as it can be a pain from time to time.

Unlike the Hotel California, Hotel RI allows you to check-out, but you
never check back-in!

Help! Our ADSM expert is on vacation so as the AIX administrator I said
"I can do that"! This is week two and my pool of scratch tapes runith
empty. When I try to return tapes this is what I get:

adsm> checkin libv stk9730 000139 search=bulk status=scratch
checklabel=barcode
ANR2020E CHECKIN LIBVOLUME: Invalid parameter - SEARCH.
ANS8001I Return code 3.

What incantation must I enter to appease the evil Gods of syntax?

Thanks
