In theory all the hardware bits are in the HAL.

SO:

1. Install, configure and set up the server hardware.

2. Install Windows NT 4.0 into C:\RESTORE.

3. Install the required Service Pack and hot fixes.

4. Install the ADSM client software, into C:\RESTORE. Add any required
service packs or revisions for ADSM. Update the connection to allow conne=
ct
to the backup server.

5. Restore the server.
Restore all drives to the new server. Do NOT restore C:\BOOT.INI or
C:\Winnt\System32\HAL.DLL.
Note: ADSM: Restore to the root level of each disk (e.g. C:\), specifying
the complete path option.

6. Edit BOOT.INI, and add an entry to the Windows NT System directory tha=
t
has just been restored (e.g. to C:\WINNT).

7. The registry files are restored to the directories in C:\ADSM.SYS.
\Registry\<Server>\Machine\*.* need to be copied to ...\SYSTEM32\CONFIG.
Files in \Registry\<Server>\Users\Default\ reflect users who were logged =
in
when the backup was taken. Copy <user>.DAT to NTUSER.DAT in that users
profile folder, and <User>.KEY to NTUSER.DAT.LOG.

8. Shut down the system and restart it.

9. As it restarts, follow a normal Windows NT upgrade option. This is don=
e
by following the normal (CD or floppy) Windows NT installation, but choos=
e
the upgrade option. This is the good bit! It will re-create the HAL.DLL t=
hat
you have not restored.

10. Check the system:
Remove unwanted drives.
Check TCP/IP addresses.
Check network adapters.

11. Shut down and restart the system.

12. Re-apply any Windows NT Service Packs required.

13. Shut down and restart the system.

14. If trust relationships were in use on the original server, they will
need to be re-set up.

Good luck
