Hi all,
My apologies if you are receiving this twice, I have had some mails sent to
me saying that the last message got a bit scrambled.
We are running an ADSM server 3.1.1.6 installation on OS/400 V4R3. We have
a 3570 C model tape library attached to the AS/400 and are backing up NT
clients.
When I initially installed ADSM I configured the Device Class for the 3570
as FORMAT=DRIVE (no FORMAT=3570C available on OS/400) and let the estimated
capacity default to 4,990 MB. Each of the tapes will get to 99 odd percent
full and the status will then change to full and a new tape will be
mounted. We have subsequently done some testing and found that native
AS/400 backups will backup nearly two and a half times that using the same
data on the Internal File System. After reading some of the posts on
adsm.org I changed the estimated capacity of the tapes to 15GB (assuming
the compression ratio 3:1) and have just managed to get 10.3 GB on a tape.
ADSM has now received an end of tape message and instead of changing the
status of the tape to full the access has just become Read Only due to a
perceived error.
Help - what do I do? I can't leave the capacity at 4.8 GB because the
tapes are not actually full when that threshold is reached and am therefore
wasting a good percentage of empty tape ($$). Conversely, setting the
capacity too high also results in a problem.
Is the stop at estimated capacity unique to the OS/400 version of the
software or does it happen on all platforms? Is there a happy medium?
Any help or suggestions will be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Scott Douglas
