I encountered such a situation. I had not explicitly coded a  DIRMC in many of
my NT clients. The mgmt class with the longest retention  was for some
direct tape mounts (no disk pool involved). I verified this by viewing the
DSMSCHED.LOG and saw that tape mounts were occurring right when ADSM was
beginning to send directories to backup storage.
