When I wanted to do this, I created a copygroup in a management class
with the all the fields set to either zero or one (see below).

Then I backed up the offending files using an incremental backup to
rebind.  Then installed the 'exclude' statements and ran another
backup.  The excluded files were marked inactive and removed from the
server inventory at the same time.

There was no waiting for an expire inventory to run.
