I think the best results are achieved with hardware compression, especially when
it comes to performance. And I think that it doesn't matter of which platform
the
data come from if the drive itself does the compression.
Today we have DLT7000 drives and their compression isn't as good as the specs
promise. We see up to 50 GB of data on a single tape. We have DLT7000 drives
connected to a Solaris and a NT machine and none of them shows its maximum
performance.
I hope that 3590 perform as good as the data sheets promise
