so the database knows about the file but the information where it's stored
is lost.

Check if you can get back the file from the clients side.

If not an audit of all volumes where the file might reside is helpful to
find the right volume which you could possibly restore.

If nothing helps perform an audit of the datatbase, it might help or the
file is definetely lost but your db will be ok.
