I have sent in DB's on 3570, DLT4000, and DLT7000, however, I was sending
them to developers in Tucson.  I agree with Richard, that IBM has the
resources to accept any tape you send.  4mm is pretty lame.

What gets me is that IBM requires customers in the MainFrame areas
(VM/MVS) to retain old tape units (i.e. 3480 compatible) for reading
system software tapes.  We are buying a 3494 with 3590 drives, and will
have to keep an old 3480, or buy a 3490-desk-top in order to install IBM
software.

I guess IBM doesn't want to send us software on those expensive tapes...
