The ADSM Connect Agent does not backup Microsoft Exchange Server Key
Management Service Files or any of the Message Connector configurations
including the Internet Mail Connector.
In order to backup this information the imccopy utility should be utilized.
Imccopy - save all <filename.txt>
This can later be restored using
Imccopy -restore -all <filename.txt>
The resulting configuration files should be backed up to a separate
location. More info regarding the imccopy utility can be found in the MS
Exchange distribution \server\support\utils\readme.doc

The Connect Agent is required to do an on-line, or 'hot', backup.
I just did a restore from the Connect Agent when we upgraded our
server.
The old server was running on some Pentium Pro 200's and it was
getting a
little overwhelmed. So, we built a new server with dual PII 400's
and
500+MB of RAM. We loaded Exchange from the CD and then the Connect
Agent.
I then restored the Exchange Databases from the Connect Agent, and
everything was there and was exactly the same. the onl;y difference
that
was noted, was that our IMC was not configured correctly anymore.
but, over
all, a minor problem.
Hope this helps!

Subject: Exchange Server
We are looking at ADSM/MVS as a possibility for backing up among
other
things our exchange servers. I have some questions that I couldn't
figure
out from the documentation... Is the Exchange Connect agent
required to be
able to perform exchange server backups? Can a backup be taken
while
someone is updating a file? Is this what is meant by "hot" backups?
Does
data that is restored back to the exchange server look as it did
before (no
missing headers, etc.). I apologize if these questions have been
asked
before, but appreciate any information on experiences that others
have had
with ADSM.
Thanks,
