Hi,

Today I encountered some strange behaviour in ADSM.

Every day we check out tapes to move them offsite using the MOVE DRMEDIA
command. This is what happened today (and has happened before):

> ANR2756I Scheduled command DRM_TAPES_UITVOEREN started successfully.
>
> ANR6696I MOVE DRMEDIA: CHECKOUT LIBVOLUME for volume 00F3C7 in
> library 3575LIB starting.
>
> ANR8827E No Entry/Exit port is available on library 3575LIB.
> ANR8829I Remove volume 00F3C7 from slot 121 of library 3575LIB at
> your convenience.
>
This error message is false and confusing, because the Entry/Exit port IS
available (next tape gets moved there without problems) and in fact volume
00F3C7 is not even present in slot 121. See below:

> ANR6697I MOVE DRMEDIA: CHECKOUT LIBVOLUME for volume 00F3C7 in
> library 3575LIB completed successfully.
> ANR6683I MOVE DRMEDIA: Volume 00F3C7 was moved from MOUNTABLE state
> to VAULT.
>
> ANR6682I MOVE DRMEDIA command ended: 8 volumes processed.
> ANR0611I MOVE DRMEDIA started by EM00MGR as process 156 has ended.
> ANR0987I Process 156 for MOVE DRMEDIA running in the BACKGROUND
> processed 8 items with a completion state of SUCCESS at12:01:12.
>
> ANR8325I Dismounting volume 00F3C7 - 2 minute mount retention
> expired.
> ANR8336I Verifying label of 3570 volume 00F3C7 in drive RMT2
> (/dev/rmt2).
>
Here it shows that the tape was actually mounted in a drive at the time it
was eligible for checkout.

> ANR9999D mmsscsi.c(5530): Can't find inventory entry for volume
> 00F3C7 in library 3575LIB.
> ANR8468I 3570 volume 00F3C7 dismounted from drive RMT2 (/dev/rmt2)
> in library 3575LIB.
>
As a result of the checkout, the inventory entry for the volume is deleted,
resulting in a 9999 message.

Why does ADSM (or its DRM feature) try to checkout tapes that are mounted?
This must be a bug, right? Anyone seen this before? Any solutions?

We run ADSM 3.1.1.5 on AIX 4.2.1. Our library is a 3575 with 3 drives and 14
entry/exit slots.

Thanks in advance,
Martijn.
