FYI ADSMers with Exchange Agent problems:

Event 25, Source EDB error stating "MSExchangeDS ((222) ) Direct read found
corrupted page error -1018 ( (1:1472, 8448) (0-79027), (0-17571036),
1518026777, 1518026777 ). Please restore the databases from a previous
backup."

We initially thought this was a problem with ADSM but after further review
determined it was not. I opened a case with Microsoft and they were unable
to determine where the problem was. The strange thing was that the message
indicates a store corruption, yet we could access mailboxes in the store.
After reading the following article in the
Microsoft Messaging NewsFlash Volume 3, Issue 49 - December 18, 1998 it
seems the error could be the result of the Compaq controller.

Compaq Service Advisory on Exchange -1018 errors
An Application Error 1018 may occur on any Compaq Server configured with
Microsoft Exchange Server Version 4.0, 5.0, or 5.5 and any Compaq
SMART/SMART-2 Controller.
Application Error 1018 is reported by the JET database and indicates
possible data corruption from faulty hardware.
NOTE: The JET database is the database engine for Microsoft Exchange Server.
Application Error 1018 does not specifically indicate data corruption has
occurred. Rather, the error indicates that the read verification process
has failed the verification test. Application Error 1018 can result from
many conditions, such as faulty hardware devices, slow transfer rates, or
slow device responses to relinquish the SCSI bus.
Application Error 1018 occurs when the JET database detects a data or
checksum mismatch, such as in the following scenario:
The JET database requests that Windows NT read data from the
  database on the disk subsystem.
The JET database compares the requested data page and checksum
to the data and checksum from the previously stored page.
A mismatch in the data page or the checksum generates Application
  Error 1018.
NOTE: These conditions may also cause event ID 9 error to be generated in
the Windows NT Event Log by the Microsoft Windows NT SCSIPORT driver when
SCSI Command timeouts occur.
NOTE: For complete details on Application Error 1018, refer to the Microsoft
Knowledge Base Article Q151789, which can be obtained from the Microsoft Web
site at www.microsoft.com.
Any Compaq Server configured with Microsoft Windows NT Version 3.51 or
Microsoft Windows NT Version 4.0, Microsoft Exchange Server Version 4.0,
5.0, or 5.5, and any Compaq SMART/SMART-2 Controller.
If an Application Error 1018 occurs, complete the following steps:
1. Create a case with Compaq Support and include the Compaq Array
Diagnostic Utility (ADU) or Drive Array Advanced Diagnostics
(DAAD) results to Compaq for analysis.
NOTE: The ADU is available on the Compaq SmartStart and Support
Software CD Release 4.20 (or later). The Drive Array Advanced
Diagnostics Version 1.44 is available as SoftPaq SP5736.
2. Update the Compaq SMART/SMART-2 Controller and Compaq SCSI Drive
firmware to the version available on Options ROMPaq Version 2.47
Rev B, which is available as SoftPaq SP8050.
3. Update the Compaq SMART/SMART-2 Controller Driver, CPQARRAY.SYS,
to Version 3.24 (or later) from the Compaq Support Software for
Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Version 2.09B (or later).
NOTE: The most recent version of the Compaq Server Support
Software for Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, Version 2.10A, is available
on the Compaq Web site as SoftPaqs SP7692 and SP7693 and on the
Compaq SmartStart and Support Software CD Release 4.20.
4. If the system is configured with Microsoft Exchange Server Version
5.5, obtain the Hotfix for Post Microsoft Service Pack 1 for
   Microsoft Exchange Server 1018 Errors.

IMPORTANT: The Hotfix for Microsoft Exchange Server 1018 errors
must be obtained from a Microsoft Exchange Server support
representative and should not be applied unnecessarily. The
Hotfix for Post Microsoft Service Pack 1 for Microsoft Exchange
Server 1018 Errors is scheduled to be included in the Microsoft
Service Pack 2 for Microsoft Exchange Server Version 5.5.

The Hotfix for Post Microsoft Service Pack 1 for Microsoft
Exchange Server 1018 Errors enables the JET database engine to
retry and log data or checksum errors up to a maximum of 16 times.

After applying the the Hotfix for Post Microsoft Service Pack 1
for Microsoft Exchange Server 1018 Errors, monitor the Windows NT
Event Log for the frequency of consecutive retries. As a
guideline, if five or more consecutive retries occur, resubmit ADU
or DAAD results via the case logged previously to Compaq Support
   for analysis.
