The volumes numbers usually come from actual data on the tape. While the
capacity of the tape is fixed, the drive or
ADSM compress the data. That is why you get different numbers for
different tapes. This might be one explaination.

Subject: tape volume sizes

I have set up a small test environment to evaluate ADSM for our needs. My
question is about how ADSM determines the size of a tape volume. I am
currently using 2 4mm 4-10 gig drives. ADSM reports the volume size of
tapes in this device class somewhat at random. Query volume shows one
volume having an ext. cap of 6092MB, 35% utilized, and Full. Another
volume
shows as having an est. cap of 3814MB. Where are these numbers coming
from?
Have I defined something incorrectly?

Thanks

Andrew
