We're currently backing up an SAP R/3 environment of HP servers using an AIX
ADSM server connected to a 3494 ATL, The backups take place through an FDDI
LAN dedicated to the SAP environment. The HP servers are connected to EMC
disks and we are able to use the EMC timefinder software to synchronize a
bunch of disks to the SAP production database and then split the mirror. The
mirrored disks, called by EMC "business continuance volumes" or BCVs can
then be mounted on a different server which can do the backup to ADSM.

The trouble with having an AIX server for ADSM is that we cannot mount the
disks to the AIX server because they have HP-UX filesystems on them not AIX.
If the ADSM server were an HP box, we could mount the BCV volumes on the
ADSM server and it would backup as local disk on that server and save us a
lot of network traffic. At least so I presume. I would appreciate hearing
about any experiences with:

An HP-UX platform running ADSM server
An HP-UX ADSM server connected to a 3494 ATL using 3590 Magstar tape?
(maybe a longer shot) A similar environment? SAP, EMC, split mirror
backup, HP ADSM server?
