Hi Ron,
the dsmlabel command is an AIX Command, so you won't find any entries in
the activilog nor any outstanding reply's.
In the dsmlabel command you have to define the device, this one should be
not in use (query mount).
Are your AIX definitions ok ? It shoud look like

AIX Command : lsdev -Cc tape

lmcp0 Available              LAN/TTY Library Management Control Point
rmt0  Available 00-06-01-5,0 IBM 3590 Tape Drive and Medium Changer
rmt1  Available 00-02-01-0,0 IBM 3590 Tape Drive and Medium Changer
rmt2  Available 00-14-01-0,0 IBM 3590 Tape Drive and Medium Changer
rmt3  Available 00-11-01-1,0 IBM 3590 Tape Drive and Medium Changer

You can also use the adsm admin command : show libr to see if your devices
and libraries are online.
