Hi Don and Kelly,

This should work. ADSM/NT provides a device driver (adsmscsi.sys) and
supports numerous (but not all) devices using vendor or MS provided
drivers. By default adsmscsi will try to allocate every device it can
when it starts but it also has the ability to exclude devices so that
other other device drivers can be used. If adsmscsi doesn't handle the
drive then the supplied driver should. See topic b1) [How do I]
Configure ADSM to use the ADSM device driver? in the Common Questions
and Answers file available from the ADSM program folder for more info.

The server utilities (swiss army knife) has been significantly updated
for 3.1.2.0 including a new interface and a number of new and improved
wizards(initial config, performance tuning, device configuration,
etc). From the tree view, if you select Device Information you will
see a list of devices detected on that computer. If you right-click on
the compaq drive (and the native driver is running) you can select NT
Device Driver Information... and it will tell you if ADSM supports the
drive and if not why. (You can also do other things from the context
menu such as looking up element numbers and deal w/ removable drives)

If you select Device Configuration from the tree you'll be able to run
through the device configuration wizard. This will configure the
device for you regardless of which supported driver is controlling it.
(It also now supports autochangers, removable devices, file devices,
and has always supported manual drives.)

If you have not installed 3.1.2.0 there is an unsupported diagnostic
utility in the ...\ibm\adsm\utils directory called adsmdlst.exe. It
can also tell you if ADSM supports a device controlled by an nt
provided driver. There's a usage statement that will show up if
you run adsmdlst that explains what to do.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Mike Collins
