Hello,
We have an urgent problem with ADSM at our CSS customer. Briefly, this
is how it goes:
The customer has A4845 library with 4 DLT7000 drives. From a third
party supplier they have bought ADSM V3, rel. 1, level 1. They have
now problems with this s/w, so in order to ensure that the library was
configured correctly, we have today installed OmniBack 2.55 on the
machine to exercise the robot. We found no problems at all.
When they try within ADSM to define a library, this happens:
adsm> define library lib1 libtype=scsi device=/dev/adsm/picker
Session established with server ADSM: HP-UX
.
.
ANR8418E DEFINE LIBRARY: An I/O error occured while accessing library
LIB1.
ANS8001I Return code 3.
This error msg. comes immediately, and is independent of what's
specified as device on the command line. The s/w supplier has
suggested to upgrade to V3.1.1.3, but I'm not convinced that will
help. The upgrade will happen on Sunday, and I've promised to see if
can come up with other suggestions if this upgrade doesn't solve the
problem.
The picker use a HPPB scsi connection, and it doesn't change anything
to use HSC. The drives are attached through a 4-channel fiber mux.
As seen from www.storage.ibm.com/software/adsm, the A4845 is in fact
supported, at least with ADSM V3, rel. 1, Mod 2, whatever that is.
Will it help upgrading the s/w? I had an idea, before I looked at
the above www adr. that there could be problems with the f/w. The
A4845 is in fact a StorageTek 9710, but with different f/w.
However, since the A4845 is explicitly mentioned as being
supported on that web page, I can't understand that the f/w should
be a problem. Btw, the f/w rev. is 1801.
Thanks very much for any suggestions!
Kind regards,
Jesper Halding
