I have completed this process several times in the past few months on a
9710 library with DLT tapes. Load the tapes into your Silo, issue:
AUDIT LIBRARY libname CHECKLABEL=BARCODE
After the audit is complete, (in my library it completes in a few minutes)
issue the folowing command to label your tapes as scratch:
LABEL LIBVOL libname SEARCH=YES LABELSOURCE=BARCODE CHECKIN=SCRATCH
