also there is the undocumented, unsupported, IBM debug command of
"show library" that will give you something like:
Look at the "busy" and "online" for each drive... 0 is false, 1 is
true. In my example below both drives are online to the system and
rmt2 currently has a tape mounted and performing I/O, rmt1 is
available for use.

What does the output from "q drive" show at this time? Are the drives
possibly marked offline?
