OK, something is a little grey here somewhere so to clarify my reply
lets toss out copypools entirely.
On your primary storage pool you should be able to easily enhance its
capacity. Remember data can flow around in the adsm server anywhere
and always be retrieved and expired even if there is no natural path
there (ie you use a "move data blah stg=blahh" and blah can never get
to blahh via the normal nextpool path)
We run all our inbound traffic into disk pools that are listed as the
destinations under the copy groups, then those disk pools are moved
via migration processes into tape pools found as the "nextpool". All
our tape pools reside in the same 3494ATL, get scratches from the same
-bunch- of tapes and release them back into the same general slush
area.
All the time I might adjust (due to special needs) the diskpools by
removing volumes from one diskpool and assigning it to another.
If a specific tapepool "fills" I just up the "maxscratchtapes" number
for that pool and make sure my library still contains some scratch
tapes... IF scratches get physically low I either talk the users into
getting rid of some of their data or charge them for another S10 and
500 more 3590 tapes (then increase the "maxscratchtapes" number)
hope this helps,
later,
Dwight

Hi,
We would soon be reaching a stage where we would need more storage
spool space. Presently we are trying to reclaim space from the 270Gb
opticalpool. I understand that offsite ( tapes / optical disks) are good
only for copypools and not for primary storage pools.
My question is whether It is possible to use additional (tapes/
opticaldisks) inside the primary storage pool and enhance its capacity.
If not Is it possible to enhance the storage capacity by adding another
opticallibrary( Even if we have to split it into multiple storage
pools.) ?
Any guidance is appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Gogineni
