Hi Dave,
I would start in this manner,
1. Tcom problem with a router/bridge/switch. Your tcom person can check the
logs
on the router, or put a 'sniffer' type device on the wire.
2. Run a loopback on the tcom adapter on the machine you are backing up. I've
had multiple cases of adapters getting 'flakey'.
3.Check Netview on the MF to see if it is squaking about any ip network
problems,
(and check its logs).
4.If you run TCP/IP on the MF, its logs are invaluable troubleshooting tools.
As you can tell, this has manifested itself to me as hardware problems in the
past. Being on Ethernet/TCP/IP has negated our ability to do end to end diags.
About the only tool in this brave new world is 'Ping', and your experience (or
stuborn nature).
Good Luck, don't forget to enjoy the chase,

Subject: TCP/IP Failure w/ Backup from NT Client to MVS Server
Hi all. I've been successfully backing up NT clients to ADSM Server running
on MVS. The clients have ver. 2.1.0.6 of the NT client. The server is
running 2.1.0.d. Last night, the backup of the NT client failed with the
following in "dsmerror.log":
... 05:19am TcpRead: Zero byte buffer read.
... 05:19am sessRecvVerb: Error -50 from call to 'readRtn'
... 05:19am ANS4017E Session rejected: TCP/IP connection failure
Can anyone tell me what this might mean? Is this a problem with TCP/IP on
MVS? On the client? Or is it indicative of a generate TCP/IP problem on
the network between the client and the server? Or something else altogether
different?
Thanks for any help!!
