Hello,

We have several Solaris 2.6 machines on which we run a version 3,
release 1, level 0.3 ADSM client. The backup on these machines
is started from cron with "dsmc incremental -domain=blabla..."
Our server is version 2, release 1, level 5.18 on AIX.

Almost every night some of the clients display some strange behaviour.
At first everything seems OK:

      ANS1898I ***** Processed     4,500 files *****
      ANS1898I ***** Processed     5,000 files *****
      ANS1898I ***** Processed     5,500 files *****
      ANS1898I ***** Processed     6,000 files *****
      Normal File-->            43,334 /var/cron/log [Sent]
      Normal File-->               787 /var/log/syslog [Sent]
      Normal File-->             9,090 /var/named/db.145.101.38 [Sent]
      Normal File-->             1,396 /var/named/db.rupare.edu.amsterdam.nl
      [Sent]

Then something goes wrong:

      Normal File-->         5,116,485 /var/opt/SUNWisdn/log  ** Unsuccessful **
      Retry # 1  Normal File-->            43,334 /var/cron/log  ** Unsuccessful
      **
      ANS1114I Waiting for mount of offline media.
      Retry # 2  Normal File-->            43,334 /var/cron/log

And then nothing happens. The client keeps running, but is not doing
anything.

The server activity log doesn't give much information:

                      SOLARIS).

<snipped some unrelated entries>

07/13/1998 05:10:25  ANR0480W Session 10947 for node CIAO_RUPARE (SUN SOLARIS)
                      terminated - connection with client severed.

This problem seems to occur at random. One night a client makes a perfect
backup, the next night it stops after a while and hangs until we kill
it.

Has anybody seen this before?
Any suggestions?

Regards,

Alexander
