A closer look at dsmsched.log should reveal the problem. If you have the QUIET
option set and you don't see anything useful, try running with VERBOSE. The
most common reason I've seen for this error is that ADSM ran into a problem
with one of your file systems. For example, if you have a domain statement that
reads:

domain / /home /usr /share1 /share2

and one of these file systems does not exist, or is not mounted, or had an I/O
error, then ADSM won't be able to process that file system and the backup
status will be failed. The solution is to make sure that all file systems in
the domain are mounted, or to update the domain to indicate only file systems
that are mounted, or to take corrective action in the event of I/O problems.

These are common reasons for the results you are seeing. Another possibility
could be a failed network connection. Again, dsmsched.log should have something
indicating the problem.

Hello ADSM users,

I use ADSM 3.1.1.3 server and ADSM 3.1.0.2 client, both on AIX RS6000.
I get this message all the time from my dsmsched.log.
It says here that there are no failed objects but yet my backup has
failed.
I can't see anything wrong.

07/17/1998 23:08:57 Total number of objects inspected: 65,773
07/17/1998 23:08:57 Total number of objects backed up: 726

07/17/1998 23:08:57 ANS1512E Scheduled event 'GCAC13_BUP' failed.
Return code = 4.

Also my client seems to place dsmerror.log 's everywhere on the system.
Usually I find my dsmerror.log's in the same directory as my
dsmsched.log.
DOes anyone know how I can force the error log in a directory?

Thanx in advance for your answer.
