First:
Label some tapes. I'll assume V3 server:
Put tapes in library.
adsm> label libvol libname search=yes labelsource=barcode checkin=scratch
This will label and check the tapes in as scratch.
Then do your db backup:
adsm> backup db devclass=devclassname type=full scratch=yes
You should be all set.
