I think what is happening to you is that you have an outstanding message that
eventually times out. Try issuing a "q reply" after issuing the "cancel
process". If you acknowledge the outstanding reply then the process will cancel
out.

Does anyone know why it takes so long for a session or process to be
cancelled? I just waited a couple hours for a process to finally
clear out and while it was hanging, other sessions against that node
would not run. The same thing happens with sessions. If a command is
entered wrong and then you cancel the session, it still shows up as an
active session and it does not appear that the next session will start
up until the previous one is gone.
